The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for an Intern that will work with the Creative Services (CS) team to provide design assistance across many projects and pipelines. The intern will be assigned projects related to the annual meeting, help support design responsibilities for marketing, membership, scientific publications, and other SfN collateral. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in real-world design studio/production, be detail-oriented, and have an eye for design. Project(s)/Scope of Work: Assist with design and production of 2017 Annual Meeting projects, templates and exhibitor marketing. Assist CS team members by assembling comps and mock-ups; work with the CS Manager to coordinate the design and approval processes; and assist the Production Coordinator with project timelines. Lay out small- to mid-size print pieces based on design templates, ensuring consistent application of design principles, such as grids, typographic hierarchy and readability, as well as SfN brand guidelines. Design house ads, graphics, buttons, and other digital pieces based on SfN website standards and brand guidelines. Prepare comps for new projects as assigned by the CS manager, according to client needs, and under team guidance. Transfer of print-ready files and photos to external vendors. Archive completed design projects to the CS server. Support effective communication with internal and external clients by participating in assessment meetings, debriefings, and design presentations. Review and help ensure high quality of final products. Skills/Knowledge Intern Will Gain: Learn about the mission and internal operations of a nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization. Gain experience with a real-world design studio. Learn about design layout, branding, and typography. Strengthen organizational and communication skills, particularly with clientele. Build a strong portfolio of work. Improve Adobe Creative Suite design software skills (Photoshop, InDesign, Flash, and Illustrator). Learn how to multi-task and manage time in a high-capacity, fast moving environment. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education and Experience: Completed at least three (3) years of college. GPA of at least 3.0. A letter of recommendation from an instructor. Proficient with PC and Apple computers and Adobe Creative Suite (proficient in Photoshop, InDesign, Flash). Preferred Qualifications: Must be detail-oriented and possess good organizational skills. Strong communication and teamwork skills.
