Organizational Profile The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is a professional membership organization that works to promote high-quality early learning for all young children, birth through age 8, by connecting early childhood practice, policy, and research. NAEYC advances a diverse, dynamic early childhood profession and supports all who care for, educate, and work on behalf of young children. Position Description The NAEYC Office of General Counsel is seeking a legal intern for 12-15 hours a week during the school year to assist our three person legal department. The legal intern would preferably be a law student who is interested in learning about working at a public charity that is involved with interesting and complex corporate, tax, compliance, accreditation, intellectual property and other matters in the US and abroad. The legal intern will be supervised by the General Counsel and will conduct legal research, draft legal memoranda, and assist in other legal matters relevant to the operation of NAEYC. Qualifications Candidates must be currently enrolled law students at an ABA accredited law school and must have demonstrated extraordinary success in law school thus far. The ideal candidate will have strong research, writing, problem solving, and analytical abilities. He/she must be a team player but also be able to work independently. Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills are a must, as well as incredible attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have an eagerness to learn and a passion for public service and/or early childhood education and development. Salary: This is an unpaid position.
