JOB SUMMARY:

About the Position:
The Printing Services Specialist position is located in the Office of the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army (OAA), U.S. Army Headquarters Services, Army Publishing Directorate, Physical Products Division, Printing Support Branch. You will serve as a Printing Specialist responsible for major printing programs and/ or a functional component of the Army. Functional areas assigned will include operational work and staff level analysis to ensure effective coordination and execution of Army-wide printing procurement programs. This position will be filled on a permanent basis.

Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: experience determining print specifications and initiating print orders on a variety of printing and binding services and products; and experience with computers and automated information systems used to control, process and record work. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

 

GS-11

Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: experience planning the type of contract and most economical and timely methods of procuring the needed printing services and products; and experience investigating problems with defective printed products or non- compliance with specifications.

 

GS-12

Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: experience researching data to expedite printing and resolve problems; experience performing complex administrative and technical work covering all areas of a printing program; and experience  planning, estimating and scheduling printing for a variety of publications.

 

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

  •  Knowledge of printing processes
  • Knowledge of procurement
  •  Skill in quality assurance of printed material
  •  Skill in written communication
  •  Ability to resolve discrepancies

 

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower or second lower grade (or equivalent).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.  For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:

 

 For the GS-09 : Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study, journalism, business administration, English composition , commerce, accounting, printing or printing engineering, graphic or commercial art, industrial engineering, or economics.

 For the GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study, journalism, business administration, English composition , commerce, accounting, printing or printing engineering, graphic or commercial art, industrial engineering, or economics.

 For the GS-12 level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
