Salary will be set within the range specified in this vacancy announcement based on the complexity of work to be performed, the selectee's experience, education, training, and availability of funds.
There is no formal rating system for applying veterans' preference to attorney appointments in the excepted service; however, the Department of Defense considers veterans' preference eligibility a positive factor for attorney hiring. Applicants eligible for veterans' preference must include that information in their cover letter or resume and attach supporting documentation (e.g., DD Form 214, "Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty") to their submissions. Specialized experience required for this position is:
- You must have professional legal experience (i.e., working as an attorney) in excess of 3 years that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of this position.
- You must be an active member in good standing in the Bar of the highest court of a U.S. state, U.S. Commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Federal, DoD, and Air Force ethics and standards of conduct laws, executive orders and regulations in relation to contract and fiscal law issues.
- Knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act and exemptions.

You must be a graduate from an accredited law school, and be in good standing of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico Bar.
Possess a Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school at the time of applying for the position.
