System Administrator (SA) / Database Administrator (DBA) - Junior Level
Responsible for designing, planning, implementing and administering databases, including security, access, and documentation. 1. Participates in the design, maintenance, enhancement, coding, and administration of relational databases. 2. Analyzes and determines information needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities. 3. Coordinates new data development ensuring consistency and integration with existing data warehouse structure. 4. Reviews business requests for data and data usage, researches data sources for new and better data feeds. 5. Participates in continuous improvement efforts in enhancing performance and providing increased functionality, including performing proactive maintenance such as ensuring continued space availability, monitoring activity, and documenting problems, changes, and solutions. 6. Tests designed applications. 7. Assignments may include design of data dictionaries, database structure and layout, installing, upgrading, and managing database applications. 8. Stay current on vendors' best security practices in relation to organizational requirements. 9. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned. 10. Participates in special projects as required. 11. Under general supervision, responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining operating system workstations and servers, including web servers, in support of business processing requirements. 12. Performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages. Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. 13. Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels. Ensures workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. 14. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations. Supports media management through internal methods and procedures or through offsite storage and retrieval services. 15. Under general supervision, participates in the design, implement and maintenance of moderately complex databases. 16. Maintains database dictionaries and integration of systems through database design. 17. Competent to work on most phases of database administration but may require some instruction and guidance in other phases. 18. Responsible for quality control and auditing of databases to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data. 19. Works with management to develop database strategies to support company needs. Consults with and advises users on access to various databases. Education Bachelors Degree in a Computer Science or related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience. Qualifications 2-5 years of related database analysis and/or administration experience. Knowledgeable:
- Experience in SQL server versions MS-SQL Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2014. Experience in configuring & administering the MS-SQL servers.Installing, configuring, administering of MS-SQL server and securing production servers. Perform and oversee day-to-day database activities related to check SQL server error logs, backups, restores, integrity checks, optimizations, refreshing/re indexing, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
- Familiar with MySQL, PostgreSQL or MariaDB a plus.Familiar with non-relational databases such as MongoDB or Couchbase a plus.
