  • In order to qualify for the Operations Research Analyst position you MUST meet the Basic Requirement and Specialized experience as defined:

    Basic Requirement:
    Bachelors or higher degree: in Operations Research; or a Bachelors or higher degree with at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. Courses acceptable for qualifying for operations research positions may have been taken in departments other than Operations Research, e.g., Engineering (usually Industrial Engineering), Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Management Science.

    The following are illustrative of acceptable courses: optimization; mathematical modeling; queueing theory; engineering; physics (except descriptive or survey courses); econometrics; psychometrics; biometrics; experimental psychology; physical chemistry; industrial process analysis; managerial economics; computer science; measurement for management; mathematical models in social phenomena; and courses that involved application of operations research techniques and methodologies to problems of management, marketing, systems design, and other specialized fields; or other comparable quantitative analysis courses for which college-level mathematics or statistics is a prerequisite.

    Specialized Experience GS-15:
    In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement, to qualify for this position at the GS-15 level applicants must also have at least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-14 level in the Federal service (obtained in either public or private sectors) performing the following activities : 1) Using research and analysis techniques to define, quantify, and/or evaluate the feasibility of assigned project and studies; 2) Performing operations research analyses assignments in support of activities and decisions across the organization; 3) Designing and adapting mathematical, statistical, econometric, and other scientific methods and techniques for use in developing solutions or alternative options to achieve goals; 4) assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of program operations and practices; and 5) Serving as a critical infrastructure subject matter expert. NOTE: To qualify under this option, your resume must contain sufficient detail to prove you have one year experience performing these duties.


    For any college courses, graduate work, research, thesis or other non-descript courses listed on your transcript (such as "Independent Research"), your resume or attachment memorandum from an academic professor must indicate how each course fulfills the specific education requirement (i.e., state number of semester hours credited, topic of study, grade earned).

    NOTE: Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement).     Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. All qualifications and time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
