Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations - Office of Advancement

The Office of Advancement supports the mission of Georgetown University, its faculty and students by developing relationships with key constituencies. 

The Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations works proactively with academic leaders, faculty, administrators and Advancement colleagues to seek support for university programs and research from institutional donors, including foundations, corporations and independent organizations.  Reporting to the Senior Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations, the Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations. Duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Develops and manages a portfolio of 80-100 corporations and foundations.  Conducts prospect research and identification, proposal writing and editing, solicitation and stewardship activities.
  • Coordinates submission of grant proposals.  Reviews, edits, and rewrites, as necessary, proposals in consultation with faculty and administrators.
  • Engages corporate partners and advises academic programs on corporate engagement.
  • Assists faculty in identifying funding opportunities and generating proposals and budgets.
  • Works diligently to increase faculty awareness of grant funding opportunities.
  • Works closely with the Office of Sponsored Research to coordinate fundraising efforts.
  • Meets on a regular basis with department heads and faculty to stay informed of current program interests and institutional priorities and to promote specific funding opportunities.
  • Conducts fundraising workshops on prospect identification and proposal writing for faculty and administrators.
  • Assists the Senior Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations and other colleagues in building a productive and effective overall corporate and foundation relations program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 5 years of fundraising experience - 3 years in foundation grant-seeking and proposal development preferred/experience in higher education or healthcare settings preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and highly developed interpersonal interaction skills
  • Proven ability to translate highly technical information and concepts into easily readable language
  • Ability to secure and facilitate contacts between potential funders and University academic leadership, faculty and staff
  • Ability to juggle priorities and meet deadlines
  • Experience in budget development
  • Flexibility and ability to work in high-pressure, fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of and appreciation for higher education, and supportive of the mission, philosophy, and values of Georgetown University
