This a full time Temporary position located at the Patuxent Research Refuge in Laurel, MD.  Anticipated duration of appointment is 10 weeks however this position may be extended for a total of 2 years without readvertisement.  This position may be terminated at any time due to lack or work, funding, or as the needs of the Service dictate.

Telework - the duties of this position are not suitable for telework.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    In order to qualify for the 0186 Series you must possess one of the following:

    One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level.  This experience includes: Training and counseling youth; experience as a monitor, leader, supervisor, or instructor in organized work, recreation, educational, or residential situations; ability to work with youth and instruct others in proper work methods; skill in basic first aid; skill in using hand tools.

    OR

    Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included a major in social behavior, human behavior, health care or a similar field. (YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS).

    OR

    Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of subjects directly related to the work of the position. (YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS).

    OR

    A combination of education and experience as described above, which when combined, is equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirements.  Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e. beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. (YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS).

    The following qualifications are highly desired, but will not impact your overall rating:
    -Valid State Driver's License

    Transcripts: If you are qualifying based on education you must submit a copy of your college transcripts.     REQUIREMENTS:

    • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from selective service.www.sss.gov 
    • All new employees of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service must identify a financial institution for direct deposit of pay prior to appointment.
    • New employees who are expected to travel on official business are required to apply for a Government travel charge card within 30 days of their appointment.
    • Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of the background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.
    • Wearing of the official USFWS uniform is required.
