Performs a variety of advanced zoning administration functions to include, but not limited to:
  • Responsible for managing the research, preparation and implementation of amendments to the Zoning Ordinance via a public hearing process;
  • Coordinates and directs outreach with various stakeholders utilizing a variety of communication tools including social media, webinars, video presentations, surveys and other innovative techniques;
  • Conducts briefings and training sessions of approved amendments for targeted audiences;
  • Responds to complex zoning inquiries involving the research and preparation of compliance letters, use determinations, interpretations of the Zoning Ordinance;
  • Attends meetings, makes presentations, conducts special studies, writes detailed reports, collaborates with internal and external customers and interprets data relating to land use planning and zoning, transportation, public facilities and environmental planning.
Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a planning related field; plus four years of experience in a planning-related field, preferably in the specific area of assignment. A master's degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience. The years of experience should include a minimum of three years of experience in the specific area of assignment, e.g., zoning evaluation, zoning administration, zoning enforcement, public facility, environmental and/or land use planning.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate possesses the following:
  • Advanced knowledge of the principals, practices & techniques of planning and zoning, with strong organization skills
  • Experience managing high profile projects.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills, including the editing, oversight or preparation of technical reports and regulatory language, and the presentation of information to government entities, various committees and the public.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and public relations skills to work effectively with various officials, staff members in a team setting, citizens and other customers.
  • Ability to perform complex work assignments with minimal oversight.
