The Special Project Coordinator is responsible for various association projects throughout the year. This position reports directly to the Director of Operations but will work with several departments and board members on projects as assigned. The ideal candidate is a driven, self-starter that works well under pressure and is able to manage multiple deadlines while continuing to move projects forward.  Special projects will include but are not limited to the following:

Government Affairs

  • Organize a thrice yearly government outreach campaign on the hill that includes recruitment, education and leadership of volunteers along with scheduling a set number of meetings with government officials
  • Consistent outreach with Department of Defense and other associations concerned with OSHA
  • Engage VPPPA members in writing letters and contacting targeted members of Congress and the Administration consistently
  • Act as staff liaison for the Labor and Management and Legislation and Regulatory committees
  • Establish a rapport with all VPP state managers and participate in State Plan VPP mangers conference calls and meetings


  • Create an association style guide to be used by all departments as a reference and refreshed and revised as needed
  • Update current promotion pieces and brainstorm/propose new pieces for unilateral usage across departments and regions


  • Expand our market globally by creating an outreach platform for safety and health professionals overseas
  • Build relationships with like organizations to expand our reach in the safety and health field
  • Produce a substantive marketing campaign for the annual conference that overlays with communication and membership


  • Brainstorm additional ways to engage the membership and see the projects through to completion
  • Diversify revenue streams to include new membership levels, a VPPPA store offered on our website and additional logoed items
  • Identify VPP sites that are non-members and develop plan to engage sites and bring on as members

Special Projects

  • Explore the opportunity to offer a VPP certification and present proposal to the board
  • Investigate awards that are offered to non-profits for various categories to assist VPPPA in garnering recognition for our print and online presence
  • Spearhead our online community and develop a plan to engage membership
  • Create a template proposal form and system for all VPPPA committee to use when making a proposal to the VPPPA board of directors.


  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related field
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work as a team and independently
  • Flexible and willing to adapt quickly to new challenges and processes
  • Must possess a sense of humor
  • Love of food a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
