General Dynamics is seeking a Field Technician for the Northern Region of Massachusetts for the installation; configuration; maintenance; and servicing of VoIP communications systems and equipment; servers/workstations; and the associated electrical / electronic / mechanical equipment at Massachusetts Next Generation (NG) 911 Public Service Answering Points (PSAP) in Northern Massachusetts. 


Position is telecommute from home office and client sites with occasional visits to the GDIT Westwood, MA and Norwood facilities as well as the MA911 Data Center locations in Andover, MA, and Northboro, MA.  Position is an operations field support role working various shifts. Work will require dispatch support to the customer PSAP sites for technical support; troubleshooting; and repair.


Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Support deployment of the Next Generation 911 system across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to include:

 -- Perform the break fit and preventive maintenance; installation, configuration, and testing of replacement components to include of various types of electrical; electronic; and/or mechanical equipment and related devices that comprise the Next Generation 911 architecture at individual PSAPs to include but not be limited to: Cisco router/switches; managed PDUs; Windows workstations/monitors; IP telephones; Linux-based server(s); IP to serial converter(s); and IP gateways.

-- Must understand Remedy trouble ticketing system and Solarwinds networking monitoring tool.

-- Collaborates with NOC and sites that require preventive maintenance, operations or support services.-- Provides timely and accurate project status to the assigned GDIT Service Manager.-- Prior Next Generation 911 or E-911 experience desired but not necessary. 3. Perform on-site preventive maintenance tasks (cleaning; inspections; etc.) for all workstations; servers; and equipment as scheduled.

4. Coordinate with Help Desk and Network Operations Center; providing regular work status updates when on site.5. Update work status in web-based ticketing system.6. Inventory and maintain spare equipment stock.7. Participate in special projects as required. Education Associates Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.  Familiarity with Next Generation 911 (NG911) hardware/software/applications preferred but not required.


3-5 years of directly relatedrelated telecommunications experience. Previous experience as a field technician or in general labor strongly preferred.
