This internship is located in the U.S. Global Development Lab on the Discover and Test team within the Center for Development Innovations (CDI). This team focuses on identifying, testing and advancing innovative, evidence-based, cost-effective development
solutions. The flagship program that this Division leads, Development Innovation Ventures (DIV), is an open innovation program designed to find breakthrough innovations, minimize risk,and maximize impact through staged financing (inspired by a venture capital model), rigorous testing of impact and cost-effectiveness, and scaling of proven innovations through the public and private sectors. DIV accepts proposals year-round from innovators anywhere, in any sector, centered on evidence-based, cost-effective solutions with the ability to reach scale. Since its founding in 2010, DIV has made nearly 170 awards totaling over $90M in over 40 countries, and has been widely-recognized as a highly-innovative program within the U.S. Government and the international development community.   • The U.S. Global Development Lab is a functional bureau reporting to the USAID Administrator. The U.S. Global Development Lab is seeking an intern to support advancing Science, Technology, Innovation, and Partnership (STIP) within USAID. This position is located in the U.S. Global Development Lab’s (Lab) Center for Mission Engagement and Operations - Agency Integration (LAB/MEO/AI), Strategy and Learning Division. The Lab’s two part mission is: 1) produce breakthrough development innovations; and 2) accelerate the transformation of the U.S. development enterprise. More specifically, AI focuses almost exclusively on the second half of that mission by working to bring the expertise, resources and lessons within the Lab to the rest of the Agency, particularly in the field. More generally, the Lab focuses on: 1) science to harness the power of research and academic communities to improve development outcomes; 2) technology that can empower underserved communities and provide data to inform decision-making to improve development outcomes; 3) innovation to identify transformative
    solutions and bring them to scale; and 4) partnership to drive collaboration and collective action to achieve sustainable development impact. The Lab’s Agency Integration Objective, led by LAB/MEO/ Agency Integration, with contributions from across the Lab, aims to effectively integrate STIP to advance USAID’s sustainable development
    results and priorities.

    Undergraduate level

    • Must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a qualifying educational institution.
    • Strong MS Excel and google sheets skills required
    • Strong econometrics skills; able to read, digest and analyze economic papers
    • Detail oriented with good writing and communication skills
    • Experience or interest in international development preferred
    • Experience or interest in innovation programming preferred
    • Experience working in an office environment preferred
