The George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School invites applications for the Director, Bar Support position. Responsibilities: The Director of Bar Support will work within the Student Affairs Department--in tandem with the Director, Student Academic Affairs--to provide general informational and academic support to law students directly related to their preparation for the bar exam (both while they are in law school and after they have graduated). The incumbent will develop, coordinate, and implement school-wide initiatives to maximize Scalia Law graduate bar passage, including informational bar sessions; bar preparation workshops and courses; and group and individual meetings with students, graduates, academic support professionals, and faculty. Duties include: * Help individual students and graduates develop and execute customized study plans and strategies for passing the bar exam, including one-on-one meetings with students for individual counseling and mentoring, advice on course selection, information about bar application and character and fitness application preparation, review of sample bar exam essays, and analysis and feedback regarding writing skills; * Work with academic support staff, LRWA (legal research, writing and analysis program staff), and faculty to identify students who may need additional bar support and coordinate a support program to provide additional instruction as needed (on study techniques, writing essay answers, approaching the MBE, etc.); * Track students preparation for the bar exam and performance on the bar exam, including collaborating with commercial bar preparation companies to assist students with bar preparation efforts; * Develop and maintain resources for students and repeat bar takers, including a collection of bar support/preparation materials, a webpage, and other communications detailing bar support programs and services; * Coordinate and/or teach bar preparation and bar support programming (including for-credit bar preparation courses and opportunities for students to practice MBE/essay exams) that provides feedback on individual performance to students; * Attend bar exam administrations to support students during the process and attend post-exam bar examiner meetings; * Analyze bar exam results (including statistical analysis) and provides reports regarding results to faculty and senior staff; * Provide bar-related information to faculty members regarding topics tested and recent bar exam questions in the faculty members area of teaching and encourage/support faculty development with respect to the bar exam; * Stay up-to-date on bar exam developments in Virginia, Maryland, D.C., and nationally; and on the delivery of bar support by law schools generally; * Continually evaluate and enhance the law schools bar exam support efforts; and * Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: * J.D. is required; * Strong interpersonal, organization, and analytical and public speaking skills; * Ability to develop and manage higher education programs; * Knowledge of academic programs pertaining to law school students; * Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative; and * Ability to perform research and statistical analysis.
Preferred Qualifications: * Previous experience (one to three years) teaching law students; * Prior bar exam support and programming experience; and * Knowledge of educational theories and effective teaching styles.
