The George Mason University Central Heating and Cooling Plant, within Facilities Management, invites applications for the position of Boiler Operator on the Fairfax, Va., campus. Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Power Plant Operator Shift Supervisor, the successful candidate will oversee the operation of the Central Heating and Cooling Plant and all satellite plants during the designated shift to ensure smooth operation and provide a service to the Mason community.

Preferred Qualifications: * Working knowledge of the principles of combustion and boiler operator practices; * Operation of large industrial/commercial boilers and chillers, heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning; * Knowledge of hand and electrical tools; * Basic skills in the operation of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment; * Demonstrated ability to make minor repairs and maintain a variety of mechanical, electrical and monitoring equipment; read and interpret gauges; perform required chemical tests; and perform simple recordkeeping tasks; * Ability to react quickly and make decisions; and * Valid driver’s license and the ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
