This position is located in the Engineering Services, Facilities Division, Elevator Branch, Washington, DC.
The selectee will work Shift-2 and have a tour of duty of 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. + 10% Night Rate.
This position primarily involves servicing elevator systems and dumbwaiters which contain a variety of interrelated electric and mechanical control circuits, machinery and devices, and involve applying a combination of established practices to troubleshoot problems.

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
Applicants must meet the following SCREEN OUT ELEMENT, JOB ELEMENT #1 to be considered eligible for this position: Ability to do the work of a journeyperson Elevator Mechanic with normal supervision. Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of an Elevator Mechanic at the journeyperson level. These duties require skill in servicing elevators and dumbwaiters and skill in interpreting and applying current elevator and electrical codes.
Note: In addition, GPO Employees applying under Merit Promotion Procedures must meet the requirements listed below in accordance with the Federal Merit Promotion Plan, GPO Instruction 615.2C (Appendix B):
Successful completion of a formal 4-year apprenticeship journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the Elevator Mechanic Trade; and completion of at least (1) year of subsequent journeyperson experience as An Elevator Mechanic.
TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit Promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.

This position requires the incumbent to work in cramped spaces and around hot, oily, dusty surfaces. The work is done inside or outside and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy.
