The Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, located on the National Mall in Washington, DC, together form The Smithsonian Museums of Asian Art. The Museums holds and cares for one of the most important and comprehensive collections of Asian Art in the world.  Its mission is to stimulate curiosity about Asian art and to transform perceptions and generate greater empathy across cultures.  It is a place where Asia meets America. 

The Administrative Officer supports the Office of Finance and Administration serving as an assistant and advisor to the Associate Director in all activities related to the smooth operation of the Museum.   Incumbent resolves and executes a wide variety of actions relating to budget, finance, procurement and human resources, and supervises a staff of seven.  Incumbent will (1) oversee the formulation, tracking, and execution of the Museum’s budget which has a mixture of Federal and Trust funds; (2) ensure the integrity of the Museum’s financial data; (3) serve as the principal liaison with central human resources on all personnel activities including recruitment, training, classification and performance management; and (4) manage the Museum’s procurement and contracting activities, including travel.

The successful candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge in budget planning and programming; excellent interpersonal skills to interact with and establish and maintain effective working relationships; skill in applying human resource practices and principles; knowledge of travel systems and procurement procedures; and the ability to direct and supervise administrative staff.  As well, the successful candidate will have skill in communicating verbally and in writing to make presentations; produce reports and spreadsheets; develop policy documents, and write job descriptions and other supporting documentation for personnel actions.
