Job Type: Full-Time Location: 2100 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington *METRO-accessible*, Virginia       The Commissioner of Revenue is filling a position for a bilingual Tax Assessor for their Vehicle Personal Property Tax Division. This employee will be responsible for counseling and assisting taxpayers regarding their vehicle personal property taxes levied by Arlington County. This assistance may occur in person, at an open counter, over the phone or online. This Tax Assessor works in a call center environment and assists customers including those with limited English ability or for whom English is a second language.

Duties include:
  • Assisting and counseling the public concerning their legal obligation to register their vehicles with the County;
  • Determining vehicle and personal property tax liability;
  • Processing personal property tax returns;
  • Determining penalties and delinquent taxes;
  • Preparing personal property tax forms;
  • Adjusting personal property assessments and explaining decisions to tax payers;
  • Entering tax related data into a computer;
  • Assisting in processing vehicle account records, including vehicle personal property tax collection;
  • Researching Department of Motor Vehicle's databases and other sources for tax liability information;
  • Conducting special research projects; and
  • Responding to inquiries regarding motor vehicle state, federal tax laws and County codes.

 Selection Criteria: Minimum: High school or vocational school, GED certificate, or the equivalent, PLUS one year within a service oriented office with high client volume and the use of automated systems to retrieve, and/or download information from databases.
Proficiency in English and Spanish.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Providing customer service in a financial services environment;
  • Interpreting policies/regulations and/or tax regulations to customers;
  • Working with a diverse population;
  • Working in a call center environment; and/or
  • Motor vehicle valuation and account record (VIN, Make and Model) processing, financing, registration and/or titling.

 Additional Information: Work Hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
