Job Title: LIBRARIAN - SUNDAY SUPERVISOR Closing Date/Time: Thu. 04/20/17 11:59 PM Eastern Time Salary: $55,660.80 - $89,107.20 Annually
Job Type: Full-Time Location: Shirlington Library, 4200 Campbell Avenue, Arlington, Virginia       Arlington County's Shirlington Branch Library is seeking a Librarian to provide reference, readers' advisory, and programming services for members of a diverse community.  The successful candidate will manage the branch one day a week and participate in general library functions including collection maintenance and development.

Specific duties include:
  • Planning and providing programs for library users;
  • Scheduling, coordinating, and supervising the work of permanent and temporary staff on Sundays;
  • Building partnerships with area organizations and businesses;
  • Participating in the maintenance of the collection; and
  • Assisting customers in the use of library resources.
The successful candidate will be customer-service oriented, energetic, enthusiastic, tech-savvy and possesses strong collaboration and leadership skills.
 Selection Criteria: Minimum Qualifications: Master's of Library Science or Information Science degree from an ALA accredited college or university, plus up to three years' experience serving in a Librarian role providing library services and programs. 

Desirables:  Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following: 

a) Providing readers' advisory and reference services in a public library;
b) Using social media to promote the library and its services; and/or
c) Supervising the work of others.
 Additional Information: Work  Hours: Full-time 40 hours per week. Schedule includes some evening, weekend, and Sunday work. Actual work schedule is determined by the needs of the work location. Assignments may change over time; the current vacancy is at Shirlington Branch Library, 4200 Campbell Avenue, Arlington, VA.

This position is part of a pay for performance salary system within the Department. Entry salary within the band is determined by experience and qualifications. With satisfactory performance, professional development and position growth, employees may advance within the band up to the maximum of the band.
