About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, with the Director for Nursing, Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Bethesda, MD. Prolonged periods of walking and standing are required, as well as the ability to lift, bend, and stoop, i.e., in helping patients before and after surgery. Work is performed in a hospital where exposure to contagious and infectious disease is common.

Degree: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts in order to be considered for this position.)
Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as performing duties such as: Providing highly specialized nursing care to pediatric patients in a pediatric intensive care unit; providing specialized services to patients with complex systems and/or disease processes; operating and monitoring highly complex technical and specialized equipment.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS- 11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Registration: Applicants must have an active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration has not been attained. Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
