The Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations position works in the Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations. The office supports, encourages, and promotes George Mason Universitys academic mission and vision by interacting with alumni, friends, and the greater community. University Advancement staff members identify major funding prospects, develop specific cultivation and solicitation strategies in support of university priorities, and implement careful stewardship of gifts. University Advancement also serves as central coordinator for all fundraising efforts across the campus. Reporting to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Associate Director conducts significant discovery work to build a portfolio that will include corporations and foundations capable of making major gifts to George Mason University.

Principal Duties: Internally, in collaboration with development officers, deans, and directors, and in partnership with faculty, the Associate Director will generate, broker, and develop proposals for funding. Additional duties include: * Play a hands-on role in researching potential funders, reviewing and editing complex proposals, letters, and briefings; and coordinating the submission and tracking of proposals, subsequent funds and reports on behalf of Masons schools and units; * Working with external donors, participate in cultivating and soliciting new, multifaceted institutional partnerships at all levels and maximizing the return on investment by our partners; * Create and implement strategies for managing corporate and foundation prospects and soliciting them for major gifts; and * Assist in the development and shaping of programmatic project ideas for funding consideration with internal and external constituents. This may include: assisting in the development of the project idea, establishing institutional support for the project within the school or unit, identifying potential funding sources, and assisting in developing proposals for submission.

Required Qualifications: * Masters degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience; * Have the facility for learning quickly across widely varied priorities, and be able to meet and interact effectively and substantively with internal Mason leadership; * Must be a fundraising professional who knows and understands the culture, nature, and purpose of development/advancement activities as they apply to the university environment; * Several years of experience (at least five years is preferred) of successful fundraising, or membership development; * Demonstrated ability to work with high-level corporate/foundation representatives; building donor/customer and prospect relationships and developing stewardship activities; and soliciting and closing gifts or deals of five figures or more; * Demonstrated success in fundraising, as well as proposal writing; * Must be a self-starting, entrepreneurial and creative individual who can express and recognize ideas and opportunities, and communicate goals and objectives clearly; * Highly self-motivated with strong organizational skills and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals, with a high level of accountability for dollars raised goals; * Strong computer and database literacy are essential; * Must have the ability to synthesize complex material and have a great attention to detail; * Must have excellent written and oral communication skills; * Must have the ability to manage many projects simultaneously, and a demonstrated record of completing assignments; * Must exhibit strong interpersonal skills that will enable candidate to work well with diverse groups of constituents and colleagues (on behalf of corporations, incumbent may be responsible for liaising across campus); and * Must demonstrate the aptitude to represent the university in a highly professional and effective manner.

Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in fundraising and stewardship of corporate and foundation donors; * Experience working with senior executives, volunteers, senior administration, and faculty; * Understanding of, and commitment to, the values and role of a public, research university; * Experience in working with highly technical information; and * Experience in higher education.
