Groundskeeper, Parking Garage - Facilities Management

The Groundskeeper performs general and specific maintenance tasks regarding the interior of all University garages to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn and work.  Reporting to the Director and the Associate Director of Transportation Management, the Groundskeeper has duties that include but are not limited to:

Maintenance of Public Space

  • Maintains the parking garages - to include daily removal of trash from cans and debris pick up, and sweeper run as needed.
  • Attends to stairwells to make sure they are clean and washes them down as needed.
  • Maintains and creates painting for traffic signage on roads, parking lots, and garages - for example, crosswalks and stops signs.
  • Ensures efficient and economic use of supplies and materials to conserve University resources.
  • Draws and/or requisitions supplies and uses such items economically to avoid undue costs. 
  • Keeps supervisor informed of supply/material needs to ensure that adequate inventory is maintained.
  • Uses and disposes of cleaning materials in accordance with applicable environmental safety and control regulations.
  • Suggests improvements in service to improve unit operations. 
  • Provides supervisors and department management with advice and suggestions regarding work methods, procedures and related matters for the purpose of improving the effectiveness and cost of service.
  • Observes all safety rules, regulations, and precautions in performing duties. 

Requirements

  • High school diploma or certified equivalency
  • 2 years of experience in maintaining a building or garage
  • Ability to work effectively with considerable independence
  • Ability to operate a sweeper

The Groundskeeper is an emergency position that requires the incumbent to report to work during inclement weather at the regularly scheduled time, regardless of whether the University is closed, opening late, or closing early.
