A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.  Experience in accounting or auditing work with training in spreadsheet applications required, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:



  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices and their application to a variety of accounting transactions and problems

  • Working knowledge of microcomputer applications in the financial area

  • Working knowledge of school financing and accounting procedures

  • Knowledge of office procedures, practices, and equipment

  • Ability to prepare accounting reports of considerable complexity; to analyze and evaluate accounting problems; to develop pertinent data and recommend improved procedures

  • Good human relations and communications skills

JOB DESCRIPTION:  

This is professional accounting work performing standard accounting tasks in an established accounting system.  An employee in this class is responsible for ensuring that financial reports are prepared accurately and promptly.  The work involves the maintenance of complex accounting records and preparation of a wide range of reports and statements, including payroll, fringe benefits, monthly board reports, utilities analyses, and year-end projections. Employees are called upon to modify and adapt procedures for accounting systems, but changes are normally subject to review by superiors before adoption. Independent judgment is exercised in applying acquired knowledge and skills to the performance of assigned accounting functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Prepares monthly year-end projections of disbursements and resulting balances for salary, social security, retirement, and group life and health insurance accounts; determines variances by conferring with personnel staff and account managers. Maintains financial records, submits reimbursement requests to the State, and projects carry-over balances for programs

  • Uses computer software packages to prepare monthly financial statements, which include projections for expenditure accounts; presents and discusses the status of accounts with account managers

  • Performs a monthly analysis and projection of utility consumption for the School Board and Superintendent

  • Collects, codes, and delivers receipts other than EFT notices to the County Treasurer

  • Reviews individual school monthly financial reports and bank reconciliations of activity funds

  • Computes monthly billing and collection of cafeteria employee salaries

  • Performs related work as required
