Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), the nation’s 10th largest school district, located in suburban area just outside the nation’s capital, is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as the Division’s Mason II within the Department of Facilities and Transportation Services. This individual leads and performs journey-level masonry work required to construct, maintain, repair, or replace interior and exterior surfaces.
The ideal candidate will possess any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by completion of an acceptable apprentice-level masonry-training program, plus five years of progressively more responsible masonry experience, one year of which shall have been at the journey level. Can demonstrate knowledge of the methods and skill in the use of the equipment, materials, and tools appropriate for masonry maintenance and repair activities; knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions; knowledge of local, state, and national codes; ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers' manuals; capability to estimate time and material needs, determine when repair is not economically practical, and perform routine tasks and arithmetic computations; knowledge of basic computer skills; and strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks including lifting, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Valid driver's license with a good driving record. May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
