Human Resources Assistant (Part-Time)
The George Mason University College of Science invites candidates to apply for a part-time Human Resources Assistant position. Responsibilities: Working approximately 15 to 20 hours per week, the incumbent will support the human resources function in the College of Science. In addition to providing general administrative support such as copying, filing, and delivering documents to other offices on campus, the incumbent will perform a wide array of HR duties including drafting and processing employment contracts and appointment memos, HR transaction forms, work authorization paperwork (visas), and other correspondences. The HR Assistant may also be asked to support the collegeâ€™s recruitment processes, initiate electronic appointments, and work on ad hoc projects to support increasing the efficiency of daily operations. The most immediate anticipated projects include developing tools and resources to support recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts.
Please note that this is a part-time position and the work schedule will not exceed an average of 29 hours per week.
Required Qualifications: * A solid foundation of knowledge in the practical application of human resources best practices; * Strong organization skills and attention to detail; * Intermediate to expert skill levels in Microsoft Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint; * Strong written and verbal communication skills; * Ability to work independently; * Process-oriented mindset; and * Experience maintaining confidential documentation.
Preferred Qualifications: * Experience working in an academic unit within a higher education environment and exposure to performing similar work; * Experience using flow chart and/or org chart software is a plus; * Experience analyzing data and creating pivot tables is highly desired; and * Experience using HRIS software such as Ellucian Banner or PeopleSoft is highly desired.
