Sentara Heart Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse to work full-time with our CARE Unit. This position is seeking a permanent weekend/DAY shift nurse.

Sentara Heart Hospital, on the Sentara Norfolk General campus, offers the Hampton Roads region's only heart transplant program, including total artificial hearts and ventricular assist devices as bridges to transplant and permanent therapy. In 2016, Sentara Heart has introduced two newly-approved cardiac technologies; the world's smallest pacemaker and the world's first dissolvable heart stent. The region's first and only dedicated heart hospital is unlike any facility within hundreds of miles. Sentara Heart Hospital has all-private rooms, including 112 inpatient beds, 62 pre/post procedural rooms for patients undergoing interventional cardiac procedures and several outpatient cardiac clinics.

Unit Summary:
The CARE unit (Cardiac Assessment, Recovery, and Evaluation unit) is a 37 bed unit that provides care to cardiac patients from across the Hampton Roads region, the Eastern Shore, and Northeastern North Carolina. The unit prepares patients for procedures in the Cath and EP Labs as well as the Cardiac OR for surgery. The CARE unit also recovers the above patients post procedure. The average volume each day is approximately 60-70 patients. The types of procedures that we prepare patients for include but is not limited to: Cardiac Catheterization (interventional and diagnostic), Electrophysiology procedures such as cardiac ablations, Cardioversions, surgery and ICDs/Pacemakers, etc. The unit is open 24 hours a day Monday - Friday and on the weekends. This unit will participate in a Nurse Residency program for new graduate nurses. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

New Hire Education Requirement: All new RN's who do not have their BSN will be required to sign a BSN Agreement committing to enrollment in an accredited RN to BSN program within 24 months of hire and successfully obtaining their BSN within 5 years of hire. BSN or MSN preferred. Meets and maintains any requirements defined by specific specialty; Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire; Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire; Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire. Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire. Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire. All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.
