Degree Audit Analyst

The George Mason University Office of the Registrar invites applications for a Degree Audit Analyst. Responsibilities: The Degree Audit Analyst is responsible for building the most complicated degree evaluations, and is the primary technical liaison for report writing, system configuration and updates. The position also performs automated and manual degree compliance reviews. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining accurate degree evaluations. The position also requires performing automated and manual degree compliance reviews. The incumbent’s main duties include, but are not limited to:

Graduation: * Assist in resolving issues affecting graduation for students in their last semester and student-athletes in their final year; * Run reports of students who do not pass their degree evaluation; and * Work with students and departmental contacts to resolve student issues.

Degree Audits: * Process complex academic records transactions that will have a special effect on the degree audit; * Accurately update Ellucian Degree Works audits to be consistent with curriculum requirements specified in the University Catalog; * Primary problem solver for degree audit problems; and * Maintain degree audits consistent with degree requirements specified in the University Catalog in both CAPP (Curriculum, Advising, and Program Planning) and Degree Works systems; * Test degree evaluations thoroughly as necessary (new or adjusted audits, system updates, etc.); * Work with Assistant Registrar for Degree Compliance and Registrars IT staff to identify and resolve technical issues that affect Degree Works and/or CAPP; * Work with auditors, other sections of the Registrars Office, and outside departments as necessary to maintain proper degree evaluation performance; and assist with reporting and other duties related to degree evaluations (e.g., athletic audits, special programs); and * Process complex academic records transactions that will have a special effect on the degree audit. This may include substitutions/waivers, student area adjustments, reduction of credit, or other exception paperwork.

General: * Troubleshoot technical and academic questions regarding academic records in order to provide customer service regarding the student record process; * Develop and maintain a highly detailed level of knowledge regarding all academic programs at the university; * Work independently toward common goal to meet deadlines; * Maintain support systems as needed (i.e., Transit, Sure Code); * Provide training on Degree Works software; * Provide high-quality customer service in all aspects of the position; * Present complex ideas and policies in a way that is easy to understand; * Customer and intra-office support; * Provide high-quality customer service in all aspects of the position in spite of an often difficult and aggressive student and faculty clientele; and stay within your role (this does not include providing academic advisement to students); and * Promptly return calls/e-mails to department representatives who seek advice, and assist with cross-functional support.

Required Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; * Customer service experience, especially with an assertive clientele; * Excellent oral and written communication skills; * Demonstrated ability to employ logic to solve problems; * Demonstrated ability to process large volumes of work, while maintaining a high level of accuracy; * Experience with degree evaluation and/or student information system software; * Detail-oriented; and * Customer service skills--via phone, e-mail or in-person communication.

Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with the Ellucian Banner student information system; * Experience with academic programs and their requirements; * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with conflicting priorities; * Experience building degree evaluations, particularly using Degree Works, is strongly preferred; and * Work or other experience that required logic in dealing with complexity.
