Fairfax County Buildling Design Branch, Senior Engineer III - Part-Time Position (20-32 Hours/Week)
The DPWES Building Design and Construction Division, Building Design Branch, is seeking an architect, civil engineer, structural engineer, mechanical engineer or electrical engineer acting as the owner’s representative for new building construction and renovation projects. This position provides overall project management for the development of a wide variety of county building projects, including fire stations, libraries, police stations, community centers, administrative offices, and vehicle maintenance facilities.
Responsibilities include: planning, scope and budget development, site assessment and coordinating land acquisition, consultant selection, negotiations and contract management, design and quality control, and construction administration. Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience with both public and internal presentations to various audiences. Knowledge of local, federal, and state building and site development codes. Information technology skills including use of Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project. Proven experience in collaboration and team building with various groups. Experience with financial and budgetary planning at the project and program level. Experience with quality assurance, value engineering, sustainable development, and safety training and awareness. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and self-sufficient; possess the skills necessary to work in a fast-paced collaborative team environment; and oriented toward providing outstanding customer service to end users and project stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor’s degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate field and Professional Engineer or Architect license.
Licensures/Certifications: Possession of a valid Virginia Professional Engineer or Architect license from the Commonwealth of Virginia or similar registration from another state and can achieve Virginia registration within one year of the start of employment. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer. Also a driver’s license is required for this position.
*Note: This position may not exceed 1,560 hours per calendar year. Individuals in these positions are eligible for limited employee benefits, including medical, vision and dental insurance coverage, and participation in flexible spending programs, but are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.
