The George Mason University College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) invites applications from entrepreneurial teacher educators to join and strengthen our innovative program in Teaching Culturally, Linguistically Diverse and Exceptional Learners (TCLDEL). This interdisciplinary program emphasizes language and learning in diverse classrooms through specialized curriculum tracks. The M.Ed. program encompasses several education fields including initial licensure programs in English as a Second Language (ESL), international elementary education, foreign language education, certificate programs for international special education, and the International Baccalaureate (the first such program in North America).
Responsibilities: Housed within the Division of Advanced Professional Teacher Development and International Education, this faculty member would work primarily in the ESL curricular track and complement a vibrant faculty focused on research in national and international contexts. Duties include: * Teaching graduate-level courses in the ESL curricular track with the TCLDEL program; * Working with school-based cohorts in the northern Virginia area; and * Contributing to ongoing program development and program improvement efforts. Coursework includes language acquisition, linguistics, language and literacy for ESL, methods, and assessment; with courses offered in a variety of learning formats, including online, hybrid, and face-to-face classes with evening and weekend schedules.
Required Qualifications: * Earned doctorate focused on ESL education or a related content field.
Preferred Qualifications: * Demonstrated excellence and versatility in university teaching assignments; * Clear interest in and strong potential for interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly across other content areas within the program; and * Experience working with diverse populations, graduate-level students, and practicing K-12 teachers.
