CAD/AVL Technology Director

Job Description\: The CAD/AVL Technology Director will\: Be the chief technologist within the Xerox TMS CAD/AVL organization, reporting to the Director of Product Development. He/She will be responsible for interacting with business development, project managers and external customers. He or she will be responsible for identifying innovation technologies and architectures that can be leveraged across a varied client base. He/she will take the lead in evaluating new technologies or features for inclusion in the core product and develop measurable objectives with scope, schedule and budget for proposed technology/feature projects. While their role will be mainly in the visioning of product evolution, they will be required to determine the efficacy of technology/feature solutions during the execution and test phase in first fielding and for identifying measurable criteria that can be used to gather on-going data as to the usefulness of such technologies/features. This role requires someone with creative thinking, drive, and an ability to integrate customer business objectives with appropriate technologies and features. The successful candidate will be able to propose which technologies or features are beneficial to a core product and be able to communicate this information to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Responsibilities\: As the CAD/AVL Technology Director, you will ensure that we are building Xerox CAD/AVL offerings that are aligned with the business by\: -- Identifying relevant technologies and their potential impact or opportunity to the product suite (areas include communications and IT, app-centered technologies etc.) -- Synthesizing customer and business development objectives into requirements and translate those into product enhancements on a technology roadmap -- Producing high level architecture artifacts for features involving new functionality or major changes to existing system. -- Briefing (or leading a team to brief) research and development projects to include scope, cost and schedule for implementing the proposed work -- Providing guidance to project teams and vendors during the systems development lifecycle; this includes ensuring conformance to defined data architecture, standards and practices Participating in the design of information and application architectures on the basis of cost, functionality and practicality -- Write whitepapers on technology trends, use, and issues and identifying patent opportunities -- Assessing competitive market space and performing head-to-head evaluations Qualifications & Experience\: This individual must be able to design secure, distributed architecture systems and have experience with troubleshooting across a distributed system. While evaluating technologies and features, the successful candidate can clearly articulate potential impacts across the lifecycle including backward compatibility or upgradeability of existing customers. This person is expected to understand the transportation industry and have an in-depth understanding of the technical standards, specifications and policies that are supported within the environment and which are specifically applicable to our product. -- Bachelor s degree or higher in a technical area (Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field) with\: o At least 10 years of related experience demonstrating progressive responsibility from solution developer to solution/product architect. o At least 5 years experience in a Product Architect, Operational Architect or Systems Engineering/Architect role o At least 3+ years experience leading design efforts for IT and/or communications systems and coordinating project teams of 10 or more members -- Demonstrated experience developing extensible architectures and development patterns that are reusable, reliable and support phased implementation roll-outs -- Demonstrated history with migrating products to new or updated standards -- Proven problem solving skills, with ability to find solutions amongst conflicting requirements -- Experience with system/solution/software architectural definition methodologies and tools. -- Experience in hands-on prototyping, development, and requirement compliance evaluation -- Experience with multiple SDLCs, including waterfall, iterative, Agile (including continuous integration.) -- Experience in R&D or rapid prototyping environments including use of simulation to conduct systems engineering trade studies -- Proven experience translating client/mission requirements to quantitative systems and subsystem requirements -- Proven experience with various architecture disciplines such as security, network, operations, and data architecture, understanding big-data structure is a plus -- Experience integrating with on-site and 3rd party solution elements/applications into solution definition Skills and Knowledge\: -- Solid knowledge of architecture principles, styles, design patterns and best practices. -- Comfortable working in complex heterogeneous hardware and software environments. -- Excellent communication skills with the ability to diagram systems and discuss complex technical issues with a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders. -- Detailed working knowledge of software design techniques, including object-oriented analysis and design -- Ability to analyze alternative technology solutions (buy, build, reuse), including assistance in development of any business cases for deviation from standards -- Must be able to identify and work with stakeholders to collect, aggregate, and evaluate requirements in light of current and future technology, resources, and budgets -- Must be able to understand the overall business strategy to ensure components of the architectural vision align with those of management and other stakeholders -- Possess initiative, creativity and independent judgment; collaboration on complex issues, and strong pro-active leadership experience. Must multi-task effectively on several initiatives. All other duties as assigned.
