The AudioVisual Systems Engineer is a key member of the AudioVisual and Technology Solutions (AVTS) Division, working closely with the fellow Engineering and Operations team members to develop systems drawings and provide a high level of technical support for AVTS projects. Our Core values include innovation, working together for a common good, personal responsibility, and having fun while positively impacting DC institutions which improve the life of the nation.The AudioVisual Systems Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Manager.Major ResponsibilitiesDesign & EngineeringConducts site surveys as directed, and communicates with existing clients to understand customer needs and requirements to complete projects effectively.Finalizes technical scope of work and bill of materials based on customer-accepted technical and cost proposals.Develops system wiring diagrams and equipment rack elevations in CAD.Follows and helps to refine drafting and technical guidelines.Integration LeadershipServes as a high-level technical resource for integration team.Develops technical review packages for use by integration team, including review of structural requirements for mounting of equipment, signal flow diagrams, dimensions, system power, and mechanical requirements.Creates final project documentation, including as-built drawings and quick-guides for clients.Troubleshooting and Customer SupportResponds to technical customer inquiries regarding impending, current, or past projects.Performs diagnosis and resolution of complex AV hardware and software problems for a variety of end users. Recommends and implements corrective solutions.Able to advise on the purchase of new AV equipment, in support of procurement and development efforts.Internal OperationsResponds quickly and effectively to project changes, recommending equipment substitutions to ensure project success.Works well within the existing internal systems and processes, and makes and implements recommendations for improvements.Key CompetenciesTechnical UnderstandingOpen to and interested in learning; learns quickly.Knowledge in the design of audiovisual systems, including but not limited to: projection and display; sound and speech reinforcement; audio and video conferencing; analog and digital signal processing, distribution and routing; control systems.Ability to author all common AV design drawing types, including: audio, video and control flow diagrams, as well as ability to fluently read architectural, mechanical and electrical drawing sets.Experience designing systems using equipment from a variety of professional AV equipment manufacturers, such as AMX, Biamp, Clear One, Crestron, Extron, Planar, Polycom, Sony, Cisco/Tandberg, and many others.Experience with Crestron or AMX programming a plus.Prior experience with technical installation of audiovisual systems, site preparation, and/or understanding of a design/build integrator organization.Knowledgeable about the convergence of AV with telecom and IT, preferred.Maintains awareness of new and emerging technologies and the potential application on client engagements.Teamwork and CommunicationAble to understand and communicate with the client regarding AV systems, equipment, and related technical issues.Motivated to work together with team members to achieve shared end goals.Effectively communicates relevant project information to team members, customers, and superiors.Resolves and/or escalates issues in an appropriate and timely fashion.Consistently acknowledges and appreciates other team membera€ (TM) s contributions.Flexibility and AdaptabilityAble to adapt to changing environment and circumstances, while maintaining course to meet project goals.Willing to play various roles, as needed, to ensure that project and contract goals are achieved.Qualifications - Education and Experience2+ years experience in AudioVisual Systems Engineering3-5 years experience in the AudioVisual industry, or combined 5-7 years within AV and IT industriesA degree from a technical institute, college, or university.Ability to create and edit designs in AutoCADProficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Crestron and AMX diagnostic tools, and common DSP platforms such as BiAmp and ClearOne.CTS-D certification a plus.AMX, Crestron, Polycom, and/or Cisco design certifications a plus.Product knowledge of commercial audio, video, projection, display, and control systems.Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliverables.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as in a team environmentThis is a full-time position.
