Situated between Baltimore, MD (46 miles), Washington, DC (45 miles), Frederick County, MD adjoins Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Fort Detrick is located within the geographic boundaries of Frederick, MD, the second largest city in Maryland. Baltimore, MD & Washington DC are within 50 miles. For more information please visit our website at **Who May Apply: US Citizens** Duties Assures the timely accomplishment of security and related inspection work; Checks work progress and makes day-to-day adjustments based on work priorities; Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques, and provides on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures; Answers questions of employees on procedures and regulatory directives and obtains decisions and information on problems; Serves as a member of a three-man team stationed at the access control point/entry control point vetting and searching vehicles entering the installation or as a member of a roving patrol on foot and by radio equipped vehicle within the installation; performs 100% ID check of all personnel attempting to access the installation; prevents unauthorized or inadvertent entry into limited and exclusion areas; Conducts basic and refresher security guard training through classroom presentations and practical exercises; Conducts training exercises in the use and functions of all firearms available and used by the guard force to include of a variety of weapons and the actual qualification firing of all members; evaluates performance of members to determine effectiveness of training and advice and assistance in improving performance. **NOTE:**As required by 5 USC 3310 and 5 CFR 330.401, guard positions are restricted to preference eligibles. Non-veterans may be appointed to guard positions only if no qualified preference eligibles are available. Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. This position requires one year of specialized experience directly related to the occupation equivalent to at least the GS-06 Federal grade level. Specialized experience is defined as work involving: (1) assisting in the scheduling and/or management of multiple shifts; (2) controlling access or patrolling restricted and limited access areas; (3) assist with on-the-job training in order to broaden guard skills; and (4) leading a group of security guards or law enforcement personnel.
