Intern/Project Assistant: Latin America and the Caribbean

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) is seeking candidates currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs for internships with NDI's Latin American and the Caribbean team. We are recruiting for applicants available to begin by April 15, 2017. All applications for the April-June internship period must be received by April 1, 2017. Note: Dependent on performance, there is possibility of extending the internship through September 2017.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist the LAC team in organizing and implementing democracy development programs;
  • Collect and distribute to the LAC team foreign and domestic newspaper, magazine, or journal clippings pertaining to Latin American and Caribbean affairs;
  • Attend meetings and seminars on Latin American and Caribbean affairs and prepare written presentations to LAC team members;
  • Carry out translation of project and administrative documents and interpretation at events and meetings, as needed;
  • Conduct special projects as needed;
  • Provide logistical and administrative support to the LAC team; and
  • Assist with administrative duties such as filing, faxing, copying and mailings.

Required Skills:

  • Generally pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in political science, international affairs or a related field;
  • Fluent in Spanish (speaking, reading, writing), French a plus;
  • Available a minimum of 30 hours per week;
  • Able to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work with a team;
  • Flexible in schedule, attitude and work prioritization;
  • Demonstrated interest in Latin America and the Caribbean;
  • Willing to commit to at least three months upon accepting an internship; and
  • Experience with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, G+, etc.) strongly desired.

Comments:

This is a paid internship. Applications are now being accepted for the April-June intern cycle. Interns are encouraged to attend workshops, lectures and other staff development events at NDI. All applications for the April-June internship period must be received by April 1, 2017.
