Position Description


This position has two primary roles. Ensure the security of university technology resources through the development and execution of penetration tests against web-based applications, network infrastructure, and other types of computer systems.


In addition, a significant element of this position is to share this expertise with university students through classroom instruction, mentorship, and support for the University’s Honors College Program for Cybersecurity (ACES).


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years’ experience in penetration testing.



A bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information systems, mathematics, or business administration are preferred.

Expertise and experience in performing security assessments of network devices (routers, switches, firewalls), servers, workstations, web applications, and databases.

Experience using vulnerability assessment tools (such as App Detective, Nessus, WebInspect, AppScan, Hailstorm, NetStumbler).

Expertise and experience in creating documentation such as system security plans, contingency plans, test plans, findings matrices, and network diagrams.

Expertise in conducting vulnerability tests on Linux and Windows operating platforms.

Experience conducting manual penetration tests beyond the use of automated tools.

Possess strong oral and written communications, client-facing skills, and can articulate both verbally and in writing technical concepts to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences.

Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, information systems or mathematics.


Additional Certifications

Certification that demonstrates mastery of penetration testing/ethical hacking is desireable.

Exempt, Contingent Category 2 is a non-regular employment category assigned to exempt employees who are hired on a written agreement which is for at least six months, but not more than 12 consecutive months, and who are on a 50% time or greater basis, and whose work is not of a seasonal or intermittent nature. Exempt, Contingent 2 employees are ineligible to earn overtime. Contingent 2 employees are typically salaried, and they are guaranteed a minimum level of leave benefits provided for in policy.
