Pretty simple concept, if you ask us.Assist the Senior Investment Accountant in the process for providing all investment related income and balance sheet information for the Company's financial statements. Prepares monthly reports, quarterly financial statements, completes journal entries, analyzes and reconciles accounts. This position ensures the integrity of the investment assets and provides guidance for investment accounting software. Process and analyze investment accounting data including download of daily investment activity from bank, match to trade tickets, obtain NAIC rating from SVO, reconcile investment system to bank, and prepare various reports relating to monthly and quarterly closings. Prepare monthly journal entries and reconcile general ledger to subsystem. Work with Sr. Accountant and with vendor to troubleshoot and correct system and processing issues.Prepare statutory and GAAP investment schedules per internal or regulatory reporting requirements. Prepare year end auditor required schedules as needed.Prepare various reports for actuaries, management, and reporting group.Identify and evaluate trends in investment results, including NII, Capital Gains(Losses) and Assets.Participate in the design, implementation, and maintenance of financial information management systems affecting investment accounting functions.Enhance existing investment reporting for the division and develop summary reports for Senior Management.Identify opportunities to improve analysis of investment results providing concise and timely reports to management for key decision making, such as, establishing crediting rates.Monitor entries generated by the accounting system and fed to the general ledger to assure they support our data warehouse and reflect the appropriate results.Assist in the implementation of any future new systemsResearch investment accounting laws related to current and future asset classes.EducationBS/BA in accounting, solid understanding of general accounting principles Experience/Knowledge2-4 years accounting experience in reconciliations, general accounting, cash control processesInsurance experience preferred, not required Skills RequiredInterest in investments and aptitude for financial calculationStrong Excel skillsGood organizational, time management and communication skillsCritical thinking with a focus on continuous learningProven track record of taking initiative to research and resolve issuesGeneral understanding of different fixed income investments and derivatives
