Assistant Director, Professional Certificate Programs - School of Continuing Studies

Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies (SCS) fulfills the university's educational mission by offering a wide range of degree programs and applied learning experiences to a broad and inclusive community of students and professionals. The educational programs found within Georgetown SCS combine theory with practice through rigorous curricula led by experts in their fields, providing opportunities for students to excel academically and professionally. The Assistant Director for Professional Certificate Programs provides critical program management, new program development, marketing, and administrative services to the students and faculty of the Center for Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) at the School of Continuing Studies.  S/he supports CCPE's goals of: (1) high growth through improved performance of existing programs and development of new programs aligned to the mission and values of SCS; (2) quality management that ensures a rigorous and beneficial learning environment for students and faculty, maintains consistent branding and messaging, and controls operating costs. Reporting to the Director of Professional Certificate Programs, the Assistant Director has duties that include but are not limited to:

Program Management

  • Manages a portfolio of non-credit certificate programs and offerings to ensure high levels of student, partner, and faculty satisfaction.
  • Manages semester scheduling and program details, including course descriptions, learning objectives, schedules, and CEUs (for academic records and UIS systems).
  • Develops and implement strategies and efficient processes to provide high quality services to students, faculty, and partners.
  • Administers and analyzes course evaluations and enrollment trends; and develops statistical reports and makes recommendations for changes.
  • Works with the CCPE registration system to troubleshoot specific student issues as they arise, including coordination with student accounts to handle third party application and billing processing.
  • Prepares reports on CCPE course and certificate program performance. 
  • Prepares, disseminates, and summarizes surveys. 
  • Prepares reports on student characteristics, course taking patterns, and student performance. 
  • Participates in preparation of federal, state, and industry-specific accreditation reports.

Program Development & Enhancement

  • Supports major strategic initiatives of CCPE for new program development. 
  • Conducts market research for new program development.
  • Reviews enrollments and student evaluations of existing programs to identify patterns and areas of improvement.
  • Makes recommendations for program improvements and coordinates curriculum changes with faculty.
  • Identifies and implements program modification requirements based on student needs.
  • Works closely with faculty to implement curriculum program modifications.

Faculty/ Student Administrative Support

  • Provides assistance to prospective and registered students.
  • Liaises with university offices, specifically student accounts department.
  • Answers student inquiries related to program logistics and content.
  • Provides customer service and register students; answers student inquires related to program logistics and content; and helps students understand the benefits of premium certificate programs.
  • Develops subject matter expertise and industry knowledge in premium certificate program content verticals.
  • Completes administrative and logistical tasks as needed.
  • Supports degree auditing process.
  • Supports major events such as information sessions, faculty orientation, certificate completion ceremony, career fairs, and others as needed.


  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4 to 6 years of progressive administrative experience in education programming
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the continuing education marketplace
  • Demonstrated ability to provide very high levels of service and professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability in increasing student enrollments
  • Demonstrated ability to manage costs within budget
  • Contract and conflict negotiation skills, creativity, and demonstrated ability to manage academic programs

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree in business, communication, education or related field
  • Experience in project management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfortable with database maintenance
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of University faculty and student systems - for example, GMS, Blackboard, and/or Destiny One
  • Proficiency in strategies, tactics, and operations of social media sites such LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and a basic knowledge of SQL
