Special Education Faculty (Term Assistant Professor)

The George Mason University College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) invites applications for a Term Assistant Professor 12-month instructional faculty position in the Division of Special Education to begin Fall 2017. The Division of Special Education offers both licensure and non-licensure opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students across a wide range of content areas, including teaching students with disabilities who access the general curriculum and the adapted curriculum as well as those having visual impairments. Certificates in applied behavior analysis, autism, assistive technology, and special education leadership are also available.

Responsibilities: This position will have instructional expertise in one of the aforementioned program areas and will provide administrative oversight of clinical practice and accreditation initiatives for all programs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Teaching undergraduate and graduate-level special education courses; * Coordinating clinical practice experiences (including scaffolded field experiences and culminating internships) across all programs; * Developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with a variety of stakeholders; and * Facilitation of progress monitoring for continuous improvement (e.g., accreditation) across all programs.

The base teaching load will be 4 courses in both the Fall and Spring semesters and 2 courses in the Summer, with reallocation of up to 5 courses to manage the noted administrative responsibilities associated with being the Divisions Program Advancement Liaison.

Required Qualifications: * Must have an earned doctoral degree in special education or a related field (preference will be given to those having experience with clinical practice, collaborative partnerships, and program evaluation); * Must also demonstrate evidence of successful teaching in higher education with preference given to those having K-12 teaching and supervision experience; and * Must demonstrate ability and willingness to take on leadership responsibilities, use technology effectively, and manage multiple tasks in a highly organized manner.

Preferred Qualifications: * Preference will be given to those with potential for obtaining external funds to support research to practice initiatives.
