JOB SUMMARY:

The Defense Health Agency, National Capital Region Medical Directorate (NCR-MD) is the future of Military Medicine- a partnership in World Class Medical Healthcare. The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Dilorenzo Clinic and the Joint Pathology Center, provide world class medical services to the nation's service members and their families.

About the Position:

The Occupational Health Nurse position is located in the Directorate for Medicine, DiLorenzo Tricare Health Clinic (DTHC), Pentagon, Washington, DC. Duties may also be conducted at satellite clinics.  The candidate will mainly be working in an office setting but will also be making work-site visits to different departments.  Serves as the subject matter expert on occupational health issues. Serves as a nurse manager for client agencies.

Work is performed in a clinic, where exposure to contagious and infectious disease is common. Wearing of protective equipment and clothing on site visits is required where toxic, chemical, physical, biological, and safety hazards are present.

Management prefers candidate with certification in hearing conservation, Spirometry, and Occupational Health Nursing.

    Basic Requirement for Occupational Health Nurse:


    Education:
    Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed.


    Registration: An active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse.

    In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:


    Experience: One year of experience which includes assisting in the management of occupational health programs such as wellness programs, injury or disease prevention; counseling and/or educating patients; and experience with medical surveillance. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below.

    Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-11: A doctoral degree (Ph.D or equivalent) or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education. Graduate-level education must have been in nursing with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration, etc.) or in a closely related non-nursing field directly related to the requirements of the position to be filled. (Note: You must provide a copy of your transcripts).


    Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-11: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages

    • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.
    • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
    • This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
