The George Mason University Fenwick Library Access Services Department is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual for a Stacks Coordinator position. Responsibilities: * Provides courteous circulation assistance to patrons at the Fenwick library Service Desk; * Answers informational and basic reference questions; * Manages the circulating stacks of Fenwick library; * Organizes workflow and evaluates student assistantsâ€™ performance; * Plans, manages, and participates in shifts of the circulating and other collections; and * May serve as senior person in charge of library facilities and services during evenings.
Required Qualifications: * Bachelorâ€™s degree, and/or significant equivalent library experience; * Strong customer service skills; * Effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) for providing customer service in a diverse, academic environment and for interacting with library staff, faculty, students, and members of the public; * Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with current library systems (such as Voyager) and research resources (such as EBSCO, JSTOR, ProQuest, etc.); * Aptitude for accurate and detail-oriented work; * Solid organizational skills, including ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines; * Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, production and service-oriented environment; * Dependability and punctuality; * Physical ability to bend and reach overhead, to grasp and move library materials, to move and unpack packages and bins (up to 40 pounds), and to push loaded book trucks; * Experience with library stacks management and maintenance; * Academic library experience providing circulation services; and * Experience in the management and maintenance of circulating collections.
Preferred Qualifications: * Experience shifting library collections (planning, organizing, and managing); * Experience in training and mentoring staff members and student employees; and * Experience providing basic reference services in an academic library.
