Montgomery College, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, has need for a part-time, Instructional Associate, #S03131, in the Student Life Department. The normal work schedule is Monday - Thursday, 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.


Job Summary: This position oversees coordination of instruction support services during the late afternoon and early evening hours for students who have disabilities and assist Disability Support Services (DSS) counselors with preparation of accommodation letters for faculty.


Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Assist students and staff in day-to-day use of computer hardware, software and other assistive technology.

  • Tutor and assist student with disabilities in lower level math, English and reading as well as study/organization skills.

  • Administer and monitor exams and intake tests for students who need to use assistive technology beyond the scope of what is offered in the Assessment Center.

  • Assist DSS counselors during peak registration periods to prepare letters of accommodation and maintain files.

  • Be a resource to students, faculty and the community on disability issues and accommodations.

  • Supervise student workers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in a related academic field required.

  • Three (3) years of experience in tutoring and demonstrating concepts associated with the subject area and some experience in identifying resources that enhance the students learning/study experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of the subject matter area to which assigned sufficient to explain and demonstrate.

  • Considerable knowledge with instructional technology and educational materials employed with regard to learning resources.

  • Proficiency in responding to questions and requests about the subject area.

  • Skill in explaining subject matter principles, techniques and practices, working with others and serving as a liaison in support of faculty and student learning, using personal computers and instructional technology, and in developing instructional materials based on direction from others.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse community, both orally and in writing.

  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree.

  • A background in the field of special education.
