Position Information ## Job Description The Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT) Culpeper District is seeking a qualified Operator to fill an opening at the **Marshall Area Headquarters** in Fauquier County, VA. This position is a part of the **Warrenton Residency** which covers the counties of Culpeper, Fauquier, and Rappahannock. This position will assist with repairs and maintenance of State roadways and their surrounding right of ways. Duties include operation of dump trucks, loaders, rollers, backhoes, tractors and other equipment and hand and power tools. Performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools, performs manual labor, practices safety at all times, and works as part of a team as well as independently. Experience in equipment operation and preventive maintenance. Knowledge of safety policies and procedures. Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand-held and power tools. Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Ability to read and to follow oral and written instructions. Valid driver's license required. **Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (minimum Class B with Air Brake endorsement) within 6 months of employment.** ## Preferred Qualifications Experience in roadway maintenance and/or construction. Current possession of Commercial Driver's License (minimum Class B with Air Brake endorsement). ## Special Requirements Applicants selected for an interview will be required to perform a skills demonstration as part of the interview process. Safety shoes are required in performance of job duties. Fingerprint background check, references, work history, and DMV records will be verified prior to employment. Pre-employment physical with drug screen will be required. **This position is designated as essential and, as such, all duties associated with the job are required during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response, and emergency operations. Performance of these duties may require work outside of normal business hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
