The region's first Magnet hospital, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, is seeking a flexipool/PRN Registered Nurse (RN) to work in our Noninvasive Lab department located in the nationally recognized Sentara Heart Hospital.

Sentara Heart Hospital has all-private rooms, including 112 inpatient beds and 45 pre/post procedural rooms for patients undergoing interventional cardiac procedures.

Unit Summary:
Nurses who work in the Cardiac Non-Invasive Lab (NI) play an important role in the cardiac care delivery model. These nurses work five days a week Mon-Fri between the hours of 7:00 - 3:30. They are also required to work one weekend every 4th week and one -two holidays per year. Weekend and holidays are limited coverage, with lab being open 7 A.M to 11 A.M.

Non-Invasive Cardiology performs non-invasive testing for outpatient and admitted patients, utilizing the latest technology to diagnose cardiac disease. We supervise exercise or medication administered cardiac stress testing for Nuclear Medicine, Echocardiography Lab, and non-imaging stress patients. We are also involved in administration of ultrasound enhancing agents and apply Holter Monitors, Event Monitors. The nurses also support the Advanced Imaging Center in providing patient care, medication administration and monitoring, for those patients undergoing Cardiac CTA or Cardiac MRI.

The nurse provides outstanding care to each patient. The department has 4 stress bays, 2 nuclear cameras and 5 echo rooms. The nurses are responsible for all things related to patient care while in the NI Lab to include: ensuring the proper stress tests is ordered, ensuring patient is appropriate for stress testing, the supervision of the stress tests, monitoring patient during the procedure, as well as giving any emergency medications that may be needed.

The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

New Hire Education Requirement: All new RN's who do not have their BSN will be required to sign a BSN Agreement committing to enrollment in an accredited RN to BSN program within 24 months of hire and successfully obtaining their BSN within 5 years of hire. BSN or MSN preferred. Meets and maintains any requirements defined by specific specialty; Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire; Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire; Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire. Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire. Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire. All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.
