Position Overview
The Accounting Policy and External Reporting Group is responsible for establishing accounting policy for the Company and preparing external financial reports. We are seeking an Accounting Policy and External Reporting Manager to assist the Directors supporting our three business Segments in addressing technical accounting questions as they arise, assessing the accounting implications of new business initiatives, and assisting with implementation of new accounting standards. The Accounting Policy and External Reporting Manager will also serve as the primary point of contact for the Corporate Segment, and will assist with external reporting areas that apply broadly across the Company, or are aggregations of information provided by several of the Segments. The Accounting Policy and External Reporting Manager will work on issues of a diverse scope where analysis of the issue, business purpose and underlying economics will be crucial to evaluating the appropriate accounting treatment, and translating that information into appropriate disclosure in the Company’s external financial reports. The external financial reporting aspects of the job are recurring quarterly activities, while the accounting policy aspects of the job are ad hoc. Issues tend to be time sensitive, require extensive collaboration with business partners, as well as other members of the Accounting Policy and External Reporting team.

Responsibilities include:

* Provide expert advice and accounting guidance for technical accounting issues related to:
o New accounting guidance issued by standard setters and regulatory agencies;
o Questions arising from Segment Controllers regarding application of the Company’s accounting policies and U.S. GAAP to significant and unusual transactions; and
o Assessment of accounting and financial reporting effects of new business initiatives.
* Prepare and/or revise accounting policies and procedures to reflect new accounting pronouncements or guidance, to improve clarity or to respond to changing circumstances.
* Communicate with Finance personnel regarding accounting changes, new accounting standards, technical accounting topics, and other related business and control issues.
* Monitor and analyze emerging issues and proposed rule changes, and assist in the implementation of new requirements across affected business areas.
* Aggregating and reviewing financial information provided by the Segments for disclosure in the Company’s external financial reports.

Basic Requirements
* 5 to 8 years of experience, which may include any of the following (or a combination of more than one):
o Big 4 Public Accounting Firm with experience in the financial services industry with some time spent in a technical accounting advisory capacity (i.e., Capital Markets Advisory group);
o Technical accounting group at a large financial services organization; or
o Regulatory agency or accounting standard setter (i.e., SEC, FASB).
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
* Strong financial aptitude and robust analytical skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Skills
* Knowledge of Mortgage Banking Industry
* Familiarity with Webfilings and XBRL
* Ability to work effectively with continuous change and short deadlines
* Demonstrated business acumen, problem solving skills, intellectual maturity, and relationship management skills
