The Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) is seeking to hire an Assistant Director to lead the department's Business Support Services Division and provide oversight and direction to DPWES cross-cutting business functions as follows:
  • Integrate DPWES leadership work into a cohesive strategic management system that sets common strategic direction and ensures DPWES business area strategic initiatives align with DPWES strategic goals.
  • Manage, monitor, and report on DPWES performance measures.
  • Oversee IT services and ensure DPWES IT initiatives align with DPWES strategic goals.
  • Ensure DPWES environmental initiatives and performance measures align with department strategic goals.
  • Oversee and supervise DPWES public communication and education program.
  • Provide oversight to DPWES workplace safety and emergency management program.
  • Lead and manage day to day operations of the Business Support Services Division.
  • Serve as a member of the DPWES executive team.
This position reports to the director of DPWES. Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a closely related field; and nine years of increasingly responsible experience in administrative management and strategic planning.

The ideal candidate possesses the following:
  • Demonstrated experience developing and integrating strategic initiatives from multiple business areas.
  • Ability to negotiate, problem solve, and develop creative solutions.
  • Four or more years of experience supervising professional staff.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff from multiple organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing workplace safety programs and/or emergency management programs.
  • Demonstrated experience working in local government.
A valid driver's license is required.

Note: Is designated as emergency essential personnel and is subject to 24-hour on-call and must be able to work emergency overtime, including after-hours and weekend work during emergency incidents, trainings and exercises. Expected to work 12+ hour shifts (day or night) in the EOC as required for emergency response.

Panel interview, may include a written exercise.
