Job Summary


Westat is seeking a Spanish translator/editor to join our editorial team. The translator will be responsible for producing accurate and culturally appropriate Spanish translations of survey questionnaires and related study material. The preferred candidate will use considerable independent decision-making and critical thinking in collaborating with project/client teams and preforming quick-turnaround translations and editorial assignments.

Job Description


The translator must be able to conduct assessments and reports on the language proficiency on Spanish-language interviewers for our large field studies and other projects. The translator will be responsible for the overall successful management of translation projects for our various research areas that include questionnaires, outreach materials, consent forms, and other types of documents that are needed to communicate with Spanish-speaking communities. Additional duties include proofreading, editing, and terminology verification; usage, creation and maintenance of glossaries and automated translation memories.

Job Requirements


· A bachelor's degree is required
· 3 years of translation experience
· Excellent command of the English and Spanish languages
· Excellent attention to detail
· Familiarity with computer-assisted translation software, especially DVX
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Preferred qualifications: A master's degree is a plus, as is ATA certification. Experience in survey translation, language proficiency evaluation, and conducting cognitive interviews or focus groups is also a plus.
