Job Type: Full-Time Location: 2120 Washington Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22204, Virginia       The Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking an experienced Mental Health Therapist to provide clinical mental health wrap around services to adults between the ages of 18 to 65. The employee is located in the Behavioral Healthcare Division of DHS and will be part of a Community Support Team of therapist/case managers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and psychiatric nurses.  Case management and therapy services will be offered either in an office or during home visits.  The Adult Clinician will diagnose mental health disorders using the ICD-10 classification system; apply knowledge of trauma-informed care; and have familiarity working with clients who have both mental health and substance abuse disorders.

Duties include:
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments of mental health history, functioning, and service needs to evaluate the presence of mental and/or substance abuse disorders;
  • Providing individual and group therapy and/or case management services both in a clinic or in a home environment;
  • Documenting client progress and treatment plans; and
  • Coordinating with both other providers within the agency as well as outside services to establish linkages to treatment programs and services.
The ideal candidate will be flexible, able to work under pressure, perform as a team player, possess strong documentation skills and be familiar with evidence based practices, recovery principles, and person-centered care.
 Selection Criteria: Minimum: Master's degree in a clinical discipline such as Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or another directly related clinical discipline, which required a clinical practicum prior to graduation involving diagnostic, treatment, and case management services PLUS two years of post-Master's degree experience providing clinical therapy and other mental health or substance services which included the provision of diagnostic and treatment services.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
  • Licensed (or licensed eligible) in the State of Virginia within one year of hire (LPC, LCSW, LCP, or LFMT);
  • Experience providing case management services to seriously mentally ill adults in an outpatient setting;
  • Experience providing services to clients with co-existing mental disorders (dually diagnosed with mental illness and substance abuse); and/or
  • Experience providing therapy services to clients who have experienced trauma.

 Special Requirements: Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent on a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
 Additional Information: Work Hours:  Monday through Friday 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Some flexibility required.

The salary range above covers the Mental Health Therapist II position without appropriate Virginia clinical licensure. The salary range for Mental Health Therapist II (Licensed) is $60,964.00 - $93,142.00.
