Web & Email Manager - Office of Advancement

The Web & Email Manager maintains the Office of Advancement's giving and alumni websites and manages email campaigns according to web and email best practices.  S/he provides a combination of digital marketing and technical expertise in support of OA communications strategies and goals.  Reporting to the Associate Director of Digital Channel Strategy, the Manager/Editor has duties that include but not limited to:

Web Development Support and Department Aide:

  • Supplements web development team efforts by updating content and graphic elements of established web pages/microsites, as assigned.
  • Maintains new and existing websites, including monitoring performance and resolving downtime and site slowness.

Email Marketing

  • Monitors the email request portal, prioritizes requests, and communicates with requestors.
  • Builds email jobs, ensures email quality, and ensures copyediting completion.
  • Writes data queries (ranging from simple to complex) and ensures the accuracy of recipient lists.
  • Schedules and sends emails, confirms delivery, and assesses abnormal negative delivery rates.
  • Enforces best practices, business processes, and governance models.

Web Design

  • Translates marketing or informational content into a functional website or other multimedia platform design.
  • Produces graphic illustrations, designs, and layouts for online content.
  • Determines size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, selects style and size of type, and arranges layout based upon available space, knowledge of layout principles and aesthetic design concepts - while staying consistent with the existing graphic identity.


  • Bachelor's degree or work experience equivalency
  • At least 1 year of professional web design and development experience
  • Familiarity with digital marketing best practices
  • Strong customer service focus and attention to detail
  • Experience with Photoshop and Drupal CMS
  • Responsive web design experience
  • Cross-client/cross-device HTML email design, and 508 accessibility experience
  • Experience with email marketing systems, particularly Exact Target
  • Professional experience and in-depth knowledge of modern front-end web design, development technologies, and client-side scripting for functionality and design customization
  • Conversant in digital marketing best practices and how to use data to drive conversion

Preferred qualifications

  • Programming proficiency and in-depth knowledge of the following: HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, and jQuery
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and to coordinate between complex tasks and systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to execute sound judgment
  • Adaptable to a dynamic environment with multiple audiences
  • Accurate and attentive to detail, including when performing occasional repetitive tasks
  • Ability to further the online interactivity of the university alumni and donor base
