Student Trainee (Program Analyst), GS-0399-7/9 Pathways
Positions will be filled using hiring authorities under the Pathways Programs.
The Internship Program provides students enrolled in high schools, colleges, trade schools and other qualifying educational institutions with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while completing their education. Veteran's Preference will be applied in filling positions under the Pathways Programs.
- Eligible students must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited academic institution and maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher.
- Students will be on indefinite appointments during their period of eligibility under the Internship Program.
- Interns will be required to sign an agreement that outlines the parameters of the Internship Program during employment with NSF.
- The Internship Program allows students an opportunity to be converted non-competitively to a career-conditional or term position once the student completes all requirements of the Internship Program.

To qualify at the GS-7 level you must have one of the following: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: gathering, extracting, evaluating, and consolidating data in the formulation of reports; assisting senior analysts in the preparation of program reports; performing basic research of laws and regulations; and participating as a team member to complete special projects;
One full year of graduate level education;
A Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement - that is one of the following: In the upper one-third of your graduating class; OR a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript, or based on courses completed during your final 2 years;
A combination of post high school education and experience that combined meet the qualification requirements for this position.
To qualify at the GS-9 level you must have one of the following: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: conducting analysis of financial matters to determine resources required; using various data management systems to apply analytical techniques to identify patterns and trends, and to track and monitor analytical activities; and assisting in the performance of management studies to evaluate program success and to offer recommendations for improvement;
A Master's or equivalent graduate degree;OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master`s or equivalent graduate degree;
a combination of post high school education and experience that combined meet the qualification requirements for this position.
Education may be substituted for experience as described in “Qualifications."

PLEASE NOTE: Certificate program is defined as post-secondary education in a qualifying educational institution equal to at least one academic year of full-time study that's part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
