Program Manager, Center for Business and Public Policy - McDonough School of Business

The intellectual foundation of the Georgetown Center for Business and Public Policy is a group of senior policy scholars, senior industry and innovation fellows, and center researchers and affiliates. These thought leaders and experts bring a wide range of economic and industry expertise and uniquely poise the center to contribute academically rigorous thought to the investigation of the evolution of regulation, competition and innovation across diverse industries and economic sectors. We conduct empirical economic analysis, keep abreast of relevant issues, and inform the debate to advance policies that promote economic welfare.

The Program Manager provides program administration across the Center's 3 program areas: (1) faculty research, (2) the Strategy area of the McDonough School of Business, and (3) a range of activities at the nexus of business, economics, and public policy, including the dissemination of knowledge through a variety of publications and through Center events, including seminars, workshops, and moderated panel discussions that bring together prominent scholars, industry experts, business leaders, and policymakers. Reporting to the Center's Managing Director, the Program Manager has duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Manages general Center administration and management, including website development, constituent (4000 individuals and organizations) engagement (e-mail distribution and database management), correspondence, scheduling of appointments and meeting (and related arrangements), analysis and data tracking to evaluate Center activity, drafting and preparation of promotional materials for all program areas, grant and external funding management (proposals, invoices, progress and final reports); and electronic file systems and management
  • Serves as the key administrator for the Center, for the Center's Executive Director (to include his capacity as Area Coordinator for the Strategy, Economics, Ethics and Public Policy Area in the MSB (a position equivalent to the chair of an academic department in other schools); and for the Center's Managing Director & Director of the MBA Certificate Program.
  • Provides administrative support for the MSB strategy area and for the MBA Certificate Program.
  • Provides administration, event planning, and communications for MSB's Center for Business and Public Policy, an academic research center.
  • Provides the Center's event planning and logistics - for example, handles catering, venue rental, a/v arrangements, and signage; compiles event program and participant biographies; manages event marketing, announcements, and RSVPs; provides day-of-event on-site management; performs post-event follow up; and tracks media coverage.
  • Handles all of the Center's financial operations - financial recordkeeping, transactions, and ongoing activity - for example, budget reports, reconciliations, cost center management, draft budgets and other planning reports), reimbursements, vendor payments, contracts, expense reports; and preparation of the Center's budget in consultation with the directors.


  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 3 years of professional experience, preferably within an institution of higher education or equivalent experience, preferably within a policy think tank or in a government position
  • Experience with academic program administration
  • Exceptional organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Highest level of dependability and professionalism, and the ability to work independently and collaborate
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for the overall mission of the MSB, the Center and its programs
  • Ability to work with flexibility, energy, efficiency, enthusiasm, and diplomacy
  • Understanding of and interest in issues at the intersection of Business and Public Policy
  • Interest and experience in events management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and external partners
  • Proven time management and analytical skills
  • High level of attention to detail and organization
  • Team player, sense of humor, independent judgment and initiative
  • Experience with Microsoft Office; Mail Chimp/Constant Contact, Eventbrite, and /or Google (Drive)
  • A quick learner on a wide array of issues at the intersection of business, economics, and public policy
