Position Summary:

Maintain the day-to-day functions of the docketing department in strict adherence to established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include: Reconciling the daily docket, review and docket all incoming U.S. and Foreign correspondence and PTO mail, maintain current docket of all due dates for U.S. and foreign patent and trademark cases.

Essential Functions:

Maintain docket due dates and remarks in the computerized docket system including:

Processing domestic and foreign mail and faxes

Creating new domestic and foreign patent and trademark application files including entry of case information and pertinent deadlines in computer docketing system,

Processing PTO mail and papers (responsive and non-responsive) filed at the U.S. and foreign patent Offices.

Process daily PTO filings and ensure that all docket due dates have been cleared

Generate and timely post various daily docket reports

Maintain accuracy and productivity standards as set by the Director of IP Services and the Docketing Department Manager

Maintain working knowledge of most current USPTO rules and procedures

Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Docketing Manager

Job Requirements:

Education:

High school diploma required. Additional secretarial, business or technical training helpful

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of docketing experience using a computerized docketing system

Prior law firm experience preferred

Knowledge of USPTO practices and procedures required

Thorough knowledge and understanding of domestic/international patent and trademark matters required

Knowledge of patent prosecution procedures, terminology, and deadlines required

Technical Skills:

Typing at least 45 wpm

Proficient in use of MS Word

Proficiency in use of other office software such as Excel and PowerPoint helpful

Skills:

Excellent writing, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills

Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written

Strong proofreading skills

Ability to work well under pressure and adjust quickly to changing priorities while maintaining a high level of productivity

Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with others

Ability to exercise sound judgment

Ability to manage time and resources in order to meet deadlines

The ability to be flexible since this position may require more than 37.5 hours per week as necessary to perform the essential duties
