USGBC is currently seeking a self-motivated, strong team player to become a member of our Legal Department. The Law Clerk will work closely with the General Counsel while also having the opportunity to work with specialized outside counsel to work on a broad spectrum of legal issues. While the Office of General Counsel's demands (and thus the responsibilities of the Law Clerk) vary as the operational needs of USGBC's and GBCI's businesses evolve, the work will include the following:

  • Assist USGBC's general counsel with a variety of research and analysis of federal and state laws, as well as international law
  • Support in the negotiation and drafting of complex business contracts
  • Strong emphasis on the management and review of memoranda of understanding and commercial agreements.
  • Research and compile documents responsive to requests or subpoenas that are received
  • Draft numerous vendor contract
  • Research articles for general counsel, often including green building in ESG/CSR policies, and SEC requirements on carbon dioxide emissions reporting

Education & Training Requirements/Preferences

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Completion of at least one year of law school

Experience Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to work both with supervision and independently
  • Ability to show success in managing multiple deadlines simultaneously and meet or exceed time constraints
  • Ability to work on confidential projects

  • Highly competent in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Legal Database knowledge/management preferred
